BRUSHFOIL DEVELOPS NEW BRUSHED TRANSFER
FILMS FOR UPSCALE PACKAGING MARKET GUILFORD, Connecticut, U.S.A. – The challenge for package designers, always eager for innovations to provide their industry, has been appearance and shelf appeal vs. sustainability. Thanks to Brushfoil’s new Brushed Metallic Transfer Films, they have two new reasons to be excited about their work: the spectacular brushed metal look that stands out on crowded store shelves and less of that package in the landfill since there is no film of any kind that remains on the package after decoration. Brushfoil, a division of Interfilm Holdings Inc., is the world leader in the manufacturing of brushed films and papers that enhance the appearance of consumer products internationally. Brushfoil films provide an eye-catching, visual appeal that has quickly become a favorite of those package designers everywhere. Over a year in development, Brushfoil has now achieved the ability to provide a superior ‘brushed metallic look’ that eliminates the marriage of a film to the substrate. "Most importantly, our new product is sustainable," explained Jim Parker, a Brushfoil manager. "We’ve accomplished combining all the striking glamour of the brushed stainless steel look without any film. Package designers will now have the ability to offer a truly eye-catching finish on their product that also happens to be environmentally friendly". "Consumer products companies have driven the industry to this position. The appeal for this innovation is worldwide, and we believe the results are phenomenal," Parker added. Board samples from Brushfoil are available by contacting the company via phone, e-mail or the Internet. Individuals who want to view, touch and feel this new process need not wait long: the September 2009 issue of Package Design magazine incorporates the new features for its front and back covers. Calling the cover an "artistic achievement," the magazine says this special issue will be available in mid-September to subscribers, as well as at Print Expo in Chicago and Pack Expo in Las Vegas. The magazine cover reflects Brushfoil’s first exposure of the new process. A Tradition of Brushfoil Achievements Earlier in 2009, Brushfoil introduced its new line of 48 gauge (12 micron) brushed metallized PET films. These new, thinner gauged brushed PET films are the same high quality and are available with a chemically treated print surface excellent for laminating to paper and board. The thinner films have the same high quality finish as the 92 gauge (23 micron) but have improved yields and are available in larger rolls which require less changeovers. The films are priced competitively with traditional holographic films. In 2007, Brushfoil achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification. In 2006, the Southern Connecticut manufacturing plant expanded for the second time and is now triple its original size. Fueling this increase has been the enormous growth, both domestically and overseas, of Brushfoil sales. The unique Brushfoil finish can be found on refrigerators and major appliances around the world and has graced the retail packages for such international brands as Philip Morris, Neutrogena®, Mercedes Benz, Titleist®, 20th Century Fox Entertainment, Clinique, Zihr, Gordon Ramsay Chocolates and Universal Studios. Many of these packages can be viewed at www.brushfoil.com in the "Gallery" section. # # # Brushfoil’s wide range of film capabilities includes applications for the following:
